Shimshal (2,880m) lie in the north east of the Hunza. This trek takes us to one of the most
remote inhabited area of the Karakorum. It has many of the still unclimbed above 7000 m peaks
of the Gilgit District. Some of the longest glaciers and a wide range of wild life like the famous
snow leopards and mountain bears, a large number of blue sheep population and mountain
ibex as well many other wild life species of the area. It begins through the narrow gorge, which
opens up in the Shimshal village.
Shimshal is one of the oldest settlements of Wakhi people in the Hunza region. There are
almost 150 household and above than 1400 people. This trek attracts and provides great
opportunities to the trekkers to explore many glaciers, several peaks, passes, meadows,
streams, lush green land, wild flower pastures and you will see the wild-life in Shimshal national
park. Beyond the main village, there are their summer pastures known as Pamirs, the most
scenic place around. Options to go to Askole at the head of K-2 trek via Shimshal and Lupke La
passes or go to KKH via Chofchingol pass are available. As a whole this is an excellent trek for all
the adventure seekers.
